About this finish

Black oxide is a conversion coating that forms a black magnetite layer on steel and other ferrous alloys. It adds mild corrosion resistance (often enhanced with oil or wax), dimensional stability with virtually no buildup, and a clean matte or satin black appearance for fasteners, tooling, and precision parts.
