Chromate (conversion) coatings are chemical films applied to zinc-plated steel, aluminum, and related alloys. They enhance corrosion resistance, improve paint adhesion, and can produce clear, yellow, olive drab, or other appearances depending on chemistry. RoHS-compliant trivalent options are widely available alongside traditional hexavalent processes where still specified.
