About this finish

Phosphate coatings convert the metal surface into a crystalline phosphate layer. Zinc phosphate is commonly used as a paint or powder-coat pretreatment; manganese phosphate provides oil-retaining, anti-galling properties for sliding steel parts such as gears and fasteners.
